A unique 4-day expedition up to the summit of one of the most challenging peaks in Perú: the Mount Ranrapalca. Do it under the professional supervision of one of Peru Expedition's certified guides.
4 Days
Jun - Aug
The Mount Ranrapalca can be seen from the city of Huaraz thanks to its 6162 meters of altitude. Despite of that, it is one of the less visited mountains in Peru due to its technical difficulty.
To climb the Mount Rarapalca you will need a vast mountaineering experience and an excellent fitness level. I always recommend to have a good prior acclimatization before trying this ascent. One of the best peaks for that is the Nevado Vallunaraju.
We can ascend the Mount Ranrapalca via two main routes. On the one hand, the Northeast ridge goes from the Ranrapalca-Ishinca col steeply along a mixed terrain (rock and snow). It is a 500-meter traverse to the sharped summit. It will be the ascent route for this expedition.
On the other hand, the North face route starts to the right of the central couloir, crossing over the rock band on our right and ascending a snowy cone for about 150 meters. Then, we must face a group of rocks in the middle of the north face. Once we did it, we will walk over a short section of rocks and snow that leads us to the summit plateau.
As for the descent it will be via the Northeast slopes. I always suggest to abseil the first part so we get to the slopes by daylight.
The best season to do this ascent is from June to August. The maximum amount of participants per group is 6. I can open a group specially for you and your friends.
So, contact me for further details or if you want to book your place. It will be my pleasure to lead you up to the summit of the Ranrapalca!
Meeting point
We will leave Huaraz via a private transfer to the village of Paltay and then to Pashpa. Here we’ll meet our local team of donkeys and donkey drivers. We will start an easy climb through the Ishinca Valley to our campsite (-/L/D).
This day we will ascend to the Ishinca Base Camp in direction to the Northeast ridge or the Northeast slopes of the Ranrapalca Col (5300 m), which lies between the Ranrapalca and Ishinca mountains. We will continue hiking uphill through easy ramps and avoiding cracks. We will finally reach the Col where we will set up our camp. The elevation gain of the day will be 500 meters and a total ascent duration is 7 hours approx. Overnight camp (B/L/D).
Summit day! We’ll wake up at 3 AM and start to ascend to the Ranrapalca. We’ll take the Northeast route overcoming cracks and climbing a sharped ridge which ends in the next glacier. After that we will continue ascending until we arrive to the summit of Ranrapalca, where we’ll have a beautiful view of the Cordillera Blanca (Cayesh, San Juan, Maparaju, Tullparaju, Pucaranra, Huapi, Huantsan, Ishinca, Tocllaraju and Urus peaks). Finally, we will return to Col Ranrapalca. The elevation gain will be 862 meters with a total ascent time of 10 or 12 hours. Overnight camp at High camp I (B/L/D).
After breakfast we will pick up our tents and start returning to the Ishinca base camp. Then, we must walk to Pashpa while the donkeys carry our camping and personal equipment. We’ll return via a hillside covered with quenual trees, native Andean flora. Once in Pashpa our transport will be waiting. We’ll arrive Huaraz by midday so we can have lunch there. Then, you’ll be transferred to your hotel in the city (B/L/-).

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger. Guillaume chose another amazing location (Pic de Bretagne) based on my climbing abilities and preferences and kindly offered train station pick-up and hotel drop off, which I appreciated very much. The multi-pitch route we did was not only fun but also the right amount of challenge, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The communication from the team (Gauthier) was prompt and clear—highly recommend!

Luis Silva was a great climbing guide and belayer! He taught me how to do moves that were difficult and encouraged me to try routes that were challenging for me! Because of his encouragement, I managed to complete these routes! I really enjoyed the climbs and completed 8 routes in the Sesimbra/Azoia area. The weather was perfect, no direct sun and cool enough to enjoy the climbs. Explore-Share made booking an outdoor climbing experience in Lisbon extremely easy. Luis, our guide, was fantastic, and the platform’s organization was flawless.

We had Léo as a guide for our day climb in Fonty. We were blessed with a knowledgeable, warm, and instructive guide. Communication with Léo and Ivan was smooth and swift. Explore-Share was excellent in arranging everything for our day climb. The communication was quick, and the platform was easy to use, making our adventure stress-free.

Patrick was a great guide. He took us on an intermediate Via Ferrata at Passo Sella. Renato was quick to respond with any outreach on the Explore-Share platform. The booking process was straightforward, and once Patrick was confirmed, all went well. It was a wonderful experience, and I’d highly recommend the platform.
